Control your Linux machine with your cell phone !!!
Do you frequently leave your working laptop behind for short breaks and keep bothering to lock it every time you leave? If your answer is yes, BlueProximity is the application for you. It provides an extra layer of security for your desktop in a geeky fashion and you can easily fool anyone with this awesome application. It does this by detecting a bluetooth enabled device (commonly a cell phone) in its proximity and keep tracks of the distance between your laptop and cell phone. If you move your cell phone away from your laptop upto a certain level for a specified time, it automatically locks your computer. Similarly if you again go near the proximity of your laptop with your cellphone, it magically unlocks your computer without any interaction such that you do not even have to enter your password.
All you need to do is install this package called “BlueProximity” from the Add/Remove programs in Software manager, or you can simply enter this command in termianl:
tekrajesh@tekrajesh-laptop:~$ sudo apt-get install blueproximity
Once BlueProximity is installed, run it from Applications>Accessories>BlueProximtiy. Then “Scan for devices” in the Bluetooth device tab. Once you see your cellphone, choose “Use selected device” and enter the distance details in “Proximity Details” tab. Once you are done, just take away your cellphone for certain seconds and then you will witness the maGic !!!
P.S. Make sure both your laptop’s and cellphone’s bluetooth is swtiched on.
